This workshop cum lecture demonstration ‚Carnatic Conversations – A Journey into the South Indian Classical Music tradition‘ will introduce about the ancient classical music tradition of South India. Rooted in centuries-old spiritual and artistic practices, Carnatic music is built on ragams  or melodic frameworks and talams or rhythmic cycles. Carnatic music is vocal based and there is no specific music for any instruments. Whatever is sung is also rendered on the instruments  thus bringing a vocal effect. The session will also throw light on spiritual and philosophical underpinnings of Carnatic compositions apart from the differences between Carnatic and Western classical music
